PRESS RELEASE – Up to 80 million EUR funding for Recap Energy to build its Spanish and Portuguese Solar C&I portfolio

Recap’s industrial and commercial solar rooftop and energy solutions in Spain and Portugal reached first closing of up to 80 million EUR in funding for its solar PV platform. Part of the funding comes from the platform’s key shareholders INFRAGREEN IV managed by RGREEN INVEST, a Paris based asset manager that specializes in green infrastructure with over 1.3 billion EUR under management, and Elite Alfred Berg a Nordic asset manager with over 3 billion EUR under management. The capital is committed solely for the development of self-consumption solar plants. Recap is in the process of raising a related loan tranche with senior debt providers.

Sébastien Rondel, Investment Director at RGREEN INVEST, emphasizes the significance of behind-the-meter solutions in the broader energy transition. “Shifting energy generation closer to demand is a core aspect of the energy transition and this investment puts us at the forefront of developing energy solutions for C&I customers in Spain and Portugal”, concludes Rondel.

Daniel Pasternack, CEO of Elite Alfred Berg and Head of Elite Alfred Berg Renewable Energy Infrastructure Fund II, sees their investment as a natural continuation of their earlier 10 million fund into the Spanish C&I market with Recap. “The C&I solar segment complements well our fund’s other green investment strategies and allows us to continue building our exposure to distributed energy solutions”, Pasternack says.

Marco Berggren, CEO of Recap, states that “the closing of this fund means that Recap will be one of the largest players in Spain and Portugal in commercial and industrial solar rooftop solutions. This serves as a strong endorsement of our team and the business model we have developed over the past few years.”

Innovation and local commitment is central to Recap’s management, which places strict demands on meeting their client’s needs, ensuring the most efficient and sustainable energy solutions.  For its investors ReCap develops innovative green investment strategies, well aligned with the recently introduced in the EU Green Deal, helping direct sustainable financing towards a carbon neutral Europe by 2050.

* Source: RGREEN INVEST. As of June 2021. GW stands for gigawatt of installed capacity of financed plants, with the support of other financing sources.

**Source: RGREEN INVEST, estimates based on an internal calculation methodology. Note that the amount of avoided emissions attributable to a renewable energy projects financed by RGREEN INVEST depends significantly on the emission factor of the country in which the project is located. Where renewables replace fossil fuel capacity, particularly coal-fired power plants, the emissions avoided will be significant. Avoided emissions also depend on the renewable technologies deployed. This parameter explains why the avoided emissions of wind power are more important than those of solar power, even though the proportion of these two technologies is comparable in the RGREEN INVEST portfolio.

Rabbalshede Kraft and Recap Energy Join Forces to Increase Solar Energy in the Nordics

Rabbalshede Kraft is now taking the step from being a pure wind power company to supplementing wind power with more renewable energy sources. One of these investments is solar energy in their own projects or in the form of collaboration.

Rabbalshede Kraft and Recap Energy have begun a collaboration with the ambition to increase the supply of solar energy in the Swedish market. Recap Energy has primarily worked in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Brazil and India. But with origins in the Nordics and head office in Stockholm, it is natural to join forces in the Swedish market with financed solar facilities.

Rabbalshede Kraft’s CEO, Peter Wesslau, states: “By developing, owning and operating renewable energy sources, we are a long-term player and partner who has the ambition to increase the supply of locally produced green electricity. With this collaboration, we enable the conditions needed to succeed. We have a common driving force for renewable energy and the knowledge and experience that complement each other well – all the way from design, financing, construction and operation “.

Recap Energy with CEO Marco Berggren, adds: “What we have learned from other countries will now fit well into our new collaboration with Rabbalshede Kraft. Our common concept means that the customer is offered profitability in a solar system from day one. The focus is on companies that do not want to invest in solar cells themselves but who want to ensure competitive and renewable electricity use. We also take on the responsibility for the installation and management. ”

So far, solar energy accounts for only a small part of Sweden’s total electricity production. But the trend points to an upturn driven by rapid technological development.

The collaboration involves an investment in order to build solar plants with a total capacity of 50 MW over a 2-year period.
